AMC Adventure Travel Trip #1205 Cinnamon Bay, St. John USVI: Snorkeling, Hiking, and Unwinding February 10 - 19, 2012

Join us for ten glorious days of spectacular swimming, snorkeling, moderate hiking, and relaxing on one of the most beautiful islands in the world: wonderful St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Comfortable camping at Cinnamon Bay Campground in the U.S. Virgin Islands National Park. Swim and snorkel in the 80 degree Caribbean waters while your friends and neighbors at home shovel snow.  Couples, singles and families are welcome.  Join us exploring the National Park, its pristine beaches and the many fish and creatures that inhabit the coral reefs. Daily organized excursions for fun and adventure and learning about the history, flora, fauna, and culture of this island make for a wonderful vacation.

Stay in either large platform tents or cottages just a few yards from the beach. The tents come with propane stoves and lanterns and the cottages have electricity. Beds, linens, towels, cooking and eating utensils are provided and washrooms with flush toilets, sinks, and showers are nearby.  Participants generally prepare their own breakfast and lunch. Dinner can be at your camp site, the camp restaurant, or one of the many excellent island restaurants.

Every day we venture forth from the campground in our jitneys to another of the beaches on the island, each with its own special appeal.  Turtles, sting rays, French grunts, blue tang, bar jacks, squid, angel fish, parrot fish and pelicans are only a few of the creatures that are seen during the wonderfully lazy sport of snorkeling.  Hiking opportunities range from less than a mile to a cross island adventure of 8 miles.  A Ranger led walk down the historic Reef Bay trail to petroglyphs and the ruins of a sugar mill ends with a boat trip along the south shore.

Trip fee is $1,150 per person double occupancy plus estimated airfare of $350-700 includes tent accommodations, two group meals, group jitneys, and ground transportation.  After 12/24/2011 the fee is $1,200. Cottages $200 extra per person.
