AMC Major Excursion Trip #1001
The Galápagos Archipelago by Land and by Sea
March 8-20, 2010
(Note that at this writing the dates are tentative)
Land IguanaEnjoy 10 days in the unique Galápagos Archipelago on this land-and sea-based custom trip accompanied by experienced multi-lingual guides and naturalists. The natural history, singular environment, remarkable spring plants and creatures of this Natural Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve are revered the world over. A combination of motoring by boat through the Galápagos Archipelago and spending a few days in land based hotels is one of the best ways to see this incredible region and allows you to experience the best the Galápagos has to offer. In an effort to protect and preserve these “enchanted isles”, that literally changed the world, access is restricted and regulated. During our time on board the motor yacht, our permit allows us to visit these protected sites. We plan to visit at least two sites per day (2-3 hours each) where you will explore on foot and by snorkel. Hikes and snorkeling excursions have been planned during the land-based days of the itinerary. If Park regulations permit it in 2010, sea kayaking for a half day will be included in the itinerary
Our stay in the Galápagos will be much longer than standard 4-7 day trips which are only boat based. So that we can better appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the Galápagos we will be accompanied by top-level naturalist/guides while in the islands. We are contracting with O.A.R.S (see www.oars.com) and their international subsidiary, Travel Outdoors, for the detailed arrangements for this trip. O.A.R.S. has received an award as the "Best Adventure Travel Company on Earth" in the River and Sea category from National Geographic Adventure magazine. Access to the Galápagos is highly regulated and visitors must be accompanied by licensed guides and only a limited number of licensed boats are permitted in the islands. In order to make a firm reservation with specific dates for the desired boat we will need to make a significant and non-refundable deposit. So if you would like to participate, we urge you to sign up as soon as possible.
